BG induction to GRID Computing and EGEE project

Description:

EGEE has established an international grid infrastructure. The purpose of this training course is to give a practical introduction to Grid Computing and the international EGEE grid with details on its procedures and architecture. The course is intended for researchers and system managers with an interest in Grid Computing and gives some experience of the current EGEE middleware. The training materials are in English, the language used during presentations is Bulgarian and English. The course duration is 2 days.

This course describes the activities and objectives of EGEE and its major middleware services:

· Authorisation and Authentication

· Information Services

· Data Management

· Workload Management

These services will be exercised during the practicals on the GILDA grid. GILDA is a grid provided for training by the University of Catania and INFN, with partner sites in many countries.

Day 1 introduces the EGEE project and its middleware.

Day 2 has an application development focus - practicals are used to give experience of more advanced data and workload management. The participants will be invited to run sample applications. At the end of the day a talk is to be held on Bulgarian Grid resources and core services followed by the closing discussion.

In order to use a laptop to access GILDA to run the exercises you will only need preinstalled ssh and 802.11b/g wireless communication capabilities. At the beginning of the course the participants with a laptop will receive wireless connection parameters and a unique IP address for the event. It is desirable for the participants to declare usage of personal laptop during registration for the event.
